Bay leaf was the second largest spice export of Türkiye in January to October 2025, at USD 41.6 million, according to a report published on 1 December 2025. The report appeared with the announcement that the Aegean Furniture, Paper and Forest Products Exporters Association had formed an EİB Spice Technical Committee. Association chairman Ali Fuat Gürle spoke about the committee.

Spice export figures

Total Turkish spice exports were USD 181 million in the period, and exporters who are EİB members accounted for USD 111 million. Thyme was first at USD 56.5 million, followed by bay leaf at USD 41.6 million. Together the two made up 54% of spice exports. Other products listed were sweet red pepper at USD 17 million, sumac at USD 10 million, sage at USD 9.3 million, cumin at USD 7.3 million and rosemary at USD 5.3 million.

The largest destinations were the United States at USD 26.6 million, Germany at USD 10.9 million and Poland at USD 3.5 million.

About the committee

The report says the committee is meant to strengthen the sector’s quality, regulatory and international representation. Listed duties include sector coordination, sharing information, tracking regulation, representation in European and American spice associations and proposing solutions to problems.

The report names thyme and bay leaf as the key spice exports and says EİB members made most of Türkiye’s spice exports.
